Scout Information For Parents and New Scouts
BSA Troop 801 Brea, California
Who are we
Troop 801 is a "Boy Led" unit. The experienced scouts who have earned positions of leadership in the troop plan the meetings, select the outings, and teach the newer boys what it means to be a Boy Scout.  We were originally chartered in Brea on February 1, 1971 and have  operated continually since then.   Our troop 801 chartering organization is the Kiwanis Club of Brea.

Full BSA "Class A" uniform is worn on the first meeting of each month, courts of honor and selected special events; and with Scoutmaster conferences, and at board of reviews. Troop 801 T-shirts are appropriate at all other times.

We are a fairly large troop and currently a rather young troop. We have approximately 75 boys registered, of whom 40 are 10/11/12/13 years old.
Where are we
Our meetings are held at Brea Scout Center, 401 South Brea Boulevard in the city of Brea.  We are on the north-east corner of City Hall Park.

Monthly Parent Open Houses

These meetings are meant for the parents to attend and are on the first meeting of each month.  Parents can meet with current and incoming troop adults, learn about the exciting outings that are available to our scouts and adult leaders, find out what volunteer opportunities you can participate in, and offer your ideas, suggestions, and feedback.

Weekly Parent Hospitality Room

While you are waiting for your son, join us in the weekly Parent Hospitality Room for coffee, snacks, conversation, adult outing planning, and information.  Come talk to the other adults and find out what's going on.

Road to First Class Scout Meetings

The Road to First Class meeting precedes the regular meeting and begins at 6:30 pm and runs until the start of the regular meeting.  This is a meeting to get new boys or boys who have not yet achieved the rank of First Class prepared to advance to the level of First Class with a more hands on approach

Regular Scout Meetings

Regular meetings are every Monday at 7:00 pm. to 8:30 pm unless otherwise noted on the troop calendar.  Parents who do not stay for the meeting return at 8:15 to hear announcements prior to the close of each meeting.

What we like to do
Every month we plan at least one outing.  Outdoors wilderness camping (backpacking) is our favorite activity.  We also host many annual events such as Family Camp where prospective new scouts and their families have a chance to see and meet our troop in action.
As our troop continues to grow, we now provide more challenging events for the older scouts such as a canoeing trip down the Colorado River and a week long trek through New Mexico at  Philmont.

Our Goals
To keep our youth focused on values set forth in the scouting program.  To provide opportunities from which our Scouts can learn new skills through a wide range of challenging experiences while growing into adulthood.  Click here to read more about the BSA program
.
Adult Leaders
The adults of Troop 801 work hard to execute the trips and activities planed by our youth leaders. We are deeply involved in teaching and shaping the youth of tomorrow. Volunteers are encouraged to become "trained adult leaders" by attending training opportunities sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.  This is where the adults have fun in scouting.
